Students at Aberdeen
The Interim Moderator of the Aberdeen Congregation, Rev. John Goldby, F.P. Manse, Farr, Inverness-shire would be pleased to hear from any students taking up residence in Aberdeen this year so that they can be contacted.
Sabbath Trading — Government Bill for England and Wales
The Government has issued its own Draft Bill containing four options aimed at reforming the Sabbath Trading Laws. None of the options are Scriptural nor are they an improvement on the present 1950 Shops Act. The New Bill is expected to be issued early in November 1993 with the aim of amending the law by next summer. We would urge our readers to write, at this stage, to their MPs asking them to vote against all four options and to call upon the Lord of the Sabbath to help us.
It is interesting to note that the President of the ‘British Hardware Federation’ writing to his members on the 28th July, 1993, said, “It is strongly felt that none of the Government’s options are acceptable and therefore a substantial effort will be required to lobby to prevent any change in the law which would permit DIY shops to open on Sunday.” It appears that their motives for such a stand come primarily from a family and business point of view. Nevertheless, their reasons are sensible and commendable and we wish them well in their fight.

Mission News
Miss Marion Graham and Miss Jessie Coote have been at home on furlough but expect to return to the Mission Field in Zimbabwe this month. Miss Norma MacLean, who has gone out as a teacher to Ingwenya, has now obtained her work permit. She is now on the Staff of the John Tallach Secondary School.
In Kenya Dr Christine MacDonald is recuperating after several attacks of malaria. We hope and pray that she will soon regain her health and strength and, in the Lord’s kind providence, soon be able to resume her work at Sengera. Meanwhile Miss Celia Renes is carrying on the work there. There is considerable opposition from the Roman Catholics in the Kissii area to our work there and they are doing all in their power to try and prevent our Mission being registered in Kenya. Yet the Lord can bring all their schemes to nought and overrule all these things for the good of the Mission.
Let the Church at home and overseas be constantly in prayer to the Lord for sent ambassadors of the Cross to be raised up to declare the glorious gospel of Christ in the different countries in Africa — Zimbabwe, Kenya, Malawi and Mozambique — where the witness of our Church has been set up. We trust that that witness may be maintained and established more and more.
