Television Violence
The amount of violence on TV and its effect on the young has been recognised for a long time. Exposing impressionable youngsters to a diet of violence has no doubt already borne fruit in increased violence on the streets of our land. People wonder why there should be so much violence at the present time. Rather we should wonder why there is not more of it when people are being conditioned to accept it and practice it through violence on television.
It is gratifying to know that an attempt is being made to curb violence on TV. However, time will tell how much of the violence is excised from TV programmes. If it is to be so, then programme makers will have to alter their outlook quite radically. Their defence of such programmes is that life must be depicted as it is. Surely it would be better to show life as it might be, if men and women, young and old, would be guided, not by the maxims of this present degenerate age but by the Word of God.
Papal Encyclical
From time to time Popes have sent out encyclical letters to the R.C. Churches throughout the world. One is expected this autumn from the present Pope. It is called Veritatis Splendor and according to reports will bind Roman Catholics even more than at present to the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church. To go against the Church’s teaching will be regarded as mortal sin and any theologian who deviates from the mind of the Church will lose their right to teach.
Whatever else may be said about this encyclical, one thing is clear and that is that Rome is as wedded to her false teachings as she ever was. Rome must not change if she is to remain what Luther called her — the masterpiece of the devil. It is not her reformation that is foretold in Scripture but her destruction. Only then will those enslaved by her be released from the bondage in which they have been held. Let us pray for her speedy downfall.
AIDS Deaths
According to one of the World Health Organisation’s spokesmen it is predicted that there will be six million more deaths from AIDS by the end of the century. How sad it is to think that this disease is self-inflicted so far as those engaged in unnatural practices are concerned. Though governments in their folly refuse to outlaw these evil practices, yet God by inflicting men with the disease shows His abhorrence of these evils as He did when He poured down fire from heaven upon the cities of the plain. Only when society outlaws such practices can we hope for relief from this dreaded disease. It is vain for researchers to try to relate this form of behaviour to inherited genes. The Bible teaches otherwise.
