It was a pleasure to have a glimpse of Mr Donald Macdonald and his wife, Christine, at Edinburgh Communion despite a feeling of sympathy for them in having to return to Scotland earlier than they had anticipated. Mention has already been made of the fact that Dr Christine has had three attacks of malaria during six months in Kenya and medical opinion there and in this country is that she should remain in the UK until May or June 1994 (D.V.). Donald returned to Kenya after two weeks here.
There is great need for a volume of prayer to arise in our midst on behalf of our hard-pressed brethren in Kenya, Malawi and Zimbabwe. It is a cause of great anxiety to all that the Rev. Z. Mazvabo’s sight has deteriorated during the past few months. We send Mr Mazvabo our warm sympathy.
Mr Sipho Nxusani, brother-in-law of the Rev A. B. Ndebele, is in hospital suffering from heart trouble. We wish him a complete recovery, if that be the Lord’s will.
Mr Mziya has had a time of great anxiety as his wife, Otiliah, has had surgery in Harare to remove a tumour from behind her eyes. She is at present having radio-therapy treatment in Bulawayo. We trust the Lord will answer prayer for all our friends in Africa.
The shortage of water at Ingwenya still remains a problem. The school is at present closed for the summer holidays. It was interesting to learn that the water level in the old well at the Jigajane River had risen somewhat over the past years. Further up the river a small dam had been constructed by the late James Tallach. It was known as the Vancouver Dam as kind friends there had contributed to its construction. The fact that the dam conserved a certain amount of water each rainy season had caused the water level to rise in the well down-stream.
It was a great pleasure to have Miss Katie Macaulay with us at Edinburgh Communion. She is at present in Lewis but intends to return to Zimbabwe in January, 1994 (D.V.). ‘Pray ye therefore the Lord of the Harvest that He send forth labourers unto the harvest.’
