Rev. D. A. Ross
The time has come again to plan and organise another mission visit to Eastern Europe. We hope this will be possible, God willing, in May of this year. It is intended that, subject to Presbytery permission, myself and Mr Alasdair MacRae, Inverness, will go on this occasion.
Were it not for the constant support given for this essential work there could be no mission. There is no doubt from the Scriptures that the Church as enabled is duty bound to spread the Word of God to all nations. Without financial resources this cannot be done.
The Dominion and Overseas Committee has the oversight of Mission work in Eastern Europe. This committee agreed that visits be undertaken
twice yearly, depending on funds. We trust that this necessary work will have the prayerful and practical support of our people.
The following letter extracts indicate the appreciation for the churches work in Eastern Europe. These are only two of a number of such responses to the liberality of people in the Church.
“… Thank the Lord for your work, for your kind Christian hearts of sisters and brothers of your church. By your life you show to people how to live in harmony with the Bible. (Isa. 1: 17). We are very thankful to you for the literature: your calendars, (Trinitarian Bible Society, Golden Thoughts Calendars), witness to thousands of people in their houses, institutions, schools and children’s hostels. Many unbelievers began reading the Bible, using the ‘Golden Thoughts’. Especially gratitude for the children’s catechisms. It is used not only in our schools, but in all Sabbath schools in Evangelical churches of Moldova.”
“… Thank you very much for visiting our city (Kiev) and bringing literature … people who need God and do not have the Truth can be mistaken and go in the wrong direction along with the Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses and the White Brotherhood which was widely spread in Kiev during these last days. Praise the Lord this last movement was stopped.”
May we continue by the help of God to send out literature which exposes error and brings sinners to submit to Christ Jesus the King of nations. “The whole earth let His glory fill”. It is only the Holy Spirit who has power to make the Word of God effectual to sinners for their salvation. What need therefore that all our activity would be attended to with prayer for this sanctifying power.
