The following lines were written by Miss Marjory Urquhart who was resident in our Ballifearny Home of Rest at the time of her death on 18th October, 1994. She was a native of Gairloch. A fellow resident who sent on these lines and who knew her well had this to say of her: “A Christian of rare attainments; of knowledge and grace and gifts.” She left a letter which was to be given to the members of staff of the Home after her departure from time to eternity. All who knew Miss Urquhart believe that that departure was “to be with Christ; which is far better.”
We hope this letter will, in due course, be printed in the Magazine as well as another poem.
Oh Darling of Heaven my love is on Thee;
Oh Darling of Heaven who suffered for me;
Jesus my Saviour, the blood ransomed me;
Oh Darling of Heaven I’ll ever praise Thee.
Thou showed me Thou lovest me on Calvary’s tree;
In a special manner revealed it to me.
Thy Word ever faithful, unchangeable, sure,
By Thy Spirit confirmed it, my heart is assured.
Beloved of the Father, there’s no words can tell,
The anguish Thou suffered to save me from Hell;
The weight of the curse when Thou wast made sin;
Darling of Heaven Thou bore it alone.
Yea, I saw in Thy cross ’twas atonement for me;
How precious then Thou wast made unto me;
There my heart it was broken, by the love Thou showed me,
And my soul Thou betrothed it forever to Thee.
Oh Darling of Heaven ’tis a wonder to me;
Thy death, resurrection, ascension for me.
All glory and honour and praise be to Thee,
Interceding while sin is present with me.
Oh Love Everlasting ’tis strange that I’ve heard,
Sweet language of Heaven, sweet melody heard;
Thyself in the midst, appearing to me;
What can I render for such favour to me?
Oh Darling of Heaven be ever adored;
Who bore the penalty of my sins in Thy soul,
And cried, “It is finished”, redemption was wrought;
The grave could not hold Thee, the third day Thou rose.
For the brief, little while in this world I may be,
I pray Thee to help me bring others to Thee;
And say with another, in commending of Thee,
The half is not told of the beauty of Thee.
