Induction at Staffin
ON Tuesday, 23rd July, 1996, the Skye Presbytery of the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland met to induct Rev. B. Whear to the pastoral charge of the Staffin congregation. The Presbytery were heartened to see so many gather from near and far to witness this solemnity. The presence of five visiting pastors from the ministerial ranks made its own impact, and reminded us of the bonding power of the Presbyterian form of church government. It was agreed that these ministers be associated with the Skye Presbytery.
The preliminaries over, the Moderator, Rev. G. G. Hutton, conducted public worship, and preached an apposite and animated sermon from Romans 10:15. Public worship being ended, the Clerk pro tem gave a resume of proceedings leading to the Call to Rev. B. Whear. The Moderator then put to Rev. B. Whear the usual questions asked of ministers at their Induction. These Mr Whear answered satisfactorily, and thereafter signed the Formula in the presence of the congregation. The Moderator then did, in the name of the Presbytery, and by authority of the Divine Head of the church, induct Rev. B. Whear to the pastoral charge of the Staffin Congregation. The Moderator gave him the right hand of fellowship as did the other members of Presbytery. Mr Whear was then fittingly addressed by the Moderator, and the Congregation by the Clerk pro tem.
Thereafter, the Moderator invited all the other ministers present to speak. Finally, to the gratification of all present, the Rev. J. R. Tallach, who was Interim Moderator of the Staffin congregation, made his own contribution, in a few choice words. Letters of goodwill from the Revs. A. McPherson, Clerk to the Southern Presbytery, and J. A. T. van Dorp, Clerk to the Australian and New Zealand Presbytery, were read by the Clerk pro tem.
The ladies of the congregation, with typical liberality and efficiency, furnished a most enjoyable repast.
We earnestly pray that the ministry now begun will rebound to the glory of God in the ingathering of souls, and the edification of His people. Our weak and weary hands have been strengthened by Rev. B. Whear being added to the Presbytery.

Secretarial / Administrative Assistant

Teacher for Missionaries’ children, Kenya
At the Sengera Mission, Kenya, there is urgent need for a teacher to teach the missionaries’ children in both primary and secondary subjects. There are several children to be taught at present, and the course followed for children at all stages is the Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) curriculum. It would be necessary for the successful applicant to become familiar with the A.C.E. system, which is an integrated package, before going abroad. The new teacher will also have the opportunity to give religious instruction to the African children in the large Mission-sponsored primary school.
