“God is not the author of confusion” (1 Cor 14:33). The confusion and moral dilemma which has arisen from multiple pregnancies from fertility-boosting drugs — and the confusion and moral dilemma which has arisen from unclaimed or unwanted frozen embryos — is not from God. These moral dilemmas are quite predictable, and it is not good enough for the pedlars of the new ethic to complain, as they often do, that churches are not supplying answers to the ethical problems posed by their technological advances. The opposite is true. It is because we could see these moral dilemmas and the abortion ethos within which this technology was advancing that, over ten years ago, we urged caution and more accountability. They have rushed into this confusing situation, whereas “he that believeth shall not make haste” (Isaiah 28:16).
