Portree Anniversary

On the mild evening of Tuesday, 27 August, around 160 gathered in Portree on the fiftieth anniversary of the ordination of Rev Fraser Macdonald to the ministry of the Word of God in North Tolsta. Rev J R Tallach preached from Leviticus 25:9, on the atonement as the occasion for the sounding of the Jubilee trumpet.

After the service the company repaired to Portree High School where presentations were made to both Mr and Mrs MacDonald by the Portree Congregation and by the Skye Presbytery. Thereafter an excellent buffet was provided, and the evening concluded with the singing of Psalm 126 and prayer. Fifty years work, faithfully discharged, in any occupation is worth remembering, but this is especially true of the gospel ministry in our day; “they are the messengers of the churches and the glory of Christ.” (Rev)

Free Presbyterian Magazine – A Further Reprint

Free Presbyterian Publications are continuing their programme of reprinting the early volumes of The Free Presbyterian Magazine. Volume 5 is now available and, in common with other volumes, contains a large amount of edifying reading. It also offers informed comment on the events of the time, particularly in the Churches. The normal price is £16.50, with a special offer of £13.50 until November 31.

Zimbabwe Famine Relief Fund

The Zimbabwe congregations of the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland express their profoundest thanks for Famine Relief Fund donations of £2500 which have been sent to them by the General Treasurer, Mr R A Campbell. They have been distributed to all congregations, according to their size, to buy maize at Distribution Centres. This will go a long way in alleviating starvation.

We convey our sincere thanks to all congregations in Scotland who have heartily contributed to this Fund. May the Lord bless you for your open hand. “Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy” (Matt 5:7).
