Zimbabwe Mission

The Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland has been working in what is now called Zimbabwe for over 100 years, with its first ordained missionary in 1904 being himself from Africa. For a number of decades Dutch friends have helped the mission work financially to a substantial extent, through the Mbuma Zending.

Congregations

Today there are six main congregations as listed below, which together make up the Zimbabwe Presbytery. Many smaller congregations, numbering over 40 in all, are connected with the main stations.

Free Presbyterian Church, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

Free Presbyterian Church, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

  • Bulawayo
  • Ingwenya
  • Mbuma
  • New Caanan
  • Nkayi
  • Zenka

Mission institutions

In addition to the congregations, the Mission engages in medical work and education in Zimbabwe. The mission runs three main institutions:

  • John Tallach High School
  • Mbuma Mission Hospital
  • Thembiso Children’s Home

Bible Knowledge Teachers

The Mission has seven Bible Knowledge teachers working in our Primary Schools under the supervision of our Education Officer in Zimbabwe. Ingwenya, Lutsha and Thembiso Primaries all have one teacher; and Mbuma and Zenka Primaries have two. A new Bible Knowledge syllabus is being developed and it is hoped to introduce it in January 2021. Currently a revised version of the old Syllabus is being used. The Bible Knowledge teachers meet regularly for in-service training. This includes study of the Scriptures and Westminster Standards. As a Church we are conscious of the promise: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
